In regular Yahtzee, you aim to score specific combos with five dice on a scoring table. The person with the most points wins. Drunk Yahtzee is similar, but some rolls mean you have to take a drink.

This fun and relaxing drinking game with dice is perfect for when you want to play with medium drinking intensity.

Yahtzee Drinking Game Rules

Before the game starts, players roll one die to figure out who goes first, and the one with the highest number gets to start.

On each turn, players roll the dice up to three times to try and get the best score on their score pad. After each roll, they can keep some dice aside and roll the rest again.

Once you’re done rolling, you have to fill in a score in one of the thirteen possible boxes on your score pad. Make sure to choose wisely because you have to fill in one box after each round! Keep in mind that some rolls in the game come with a drinking action.

Players take turns rolling the dice until everyone completes their thirteen boxes. Then, everyone adds up their scores following the scoring pad instructions. The final scores come with different drinking rules, as explained below.

Drinking rules

  • Rolling 1s: Players have to take sips equal to the number of 1s they roll. If 1s show up in a player’s final roll, each one counts as three sips!
  • Bonus 3: Before you start your turn, roll one die. If it lands on a three, take a sip.
  • Three Fails Rule: If a player rolls three times without getting the combination they want, they take a drink.
  • Yahtzee: When a player rolls a Yahtzee (five of a kind), they pick someone else to finish their drink. But, if it’s a Yahtzee with ones, the player has to drink their entire drink.

Final score drinking rules

  • If a player’s score is 20 points lower than the leader, they have to take five sips.
  • For those trailing by 40 points or more compared to the winner, they’re obligated to take ten sips.
  • If a player falls behind by 80 points or more from the leader, they must take a shot and finish their drink.
